The Secret Agent Selected for Main Competition Festival de Cannes

We are excited to announce that The Secret Agent (2025), written and directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, has been selected for competition at the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival!

The director of Bacurau and Aquarius returns to Cannes with a politically charged thriller set in 1970s Brazil, starring Wagner Moura (Civil War, Narcos).

In 1977, in a Brazil still ravaged by military dictatorship, we follow the story of Marcelo, a forty-year-old teacher who, in leaving behind a troubled past, arrives in Recife hoping to build a new life and reconnect with his family. However, he soon realizes that the city is far from the idyllic refuge he had hoped for. A tense and gripping tale of surveillance, paranoia, and the shadows of power. The cast also features Gabriel Leone (Ayrton Senna in the biopic series Senna; Ferrari) and Maria Fernanda Cândido (Il Traditore).
